"the bassface swing trio, feat. Bruno Müller (guit.) - Bossa, Ballads and Blues"
Weightlessly light, yet grounded: that’s how the music on the new album from Bassface Swing Trio sounds. One has never heard this trio with such relaxed and airy arrangements. Bassist Jean-Philippe Wadle plucks bass lines that are as soft as clouds, Florian Hermann plays his drums with controlled restraint, Thilo Wagner shows himself as lyrical pianist on the classy Fazioli piano. For this session they invited Bruno Müller, one of Germany’s most renowned jazz guitarists.
And it was worth it! Whether it’s the playful standard “Stardust”, the relaxed bossa “Estate”, the dreamy ballad “The Shadow Of Your Smile”, or the bluesy piece “Georgia on My Mind”: these four musicians casually and gently celebrate the classics of jazz history, adding emotional depth and a subtly perceptible swing feeling. Guitarist Bruno Müller is a perfect fit for the swing trio with his warm guitar sound. His improvisations project a delicate sparkle.
The fact that they recorded these tracks live through an analog chain with the Neumann VMS-82 lathe cutting a DMM-Matrix in real-time shows at what a high-level these musicians are playing. Direct-To-Disc: honest music with no safety net and no ground.

"tribute to Cole Porter", feat. Barbara Bürkle (Voc.)
A great small jazz band, a legendary American composer and marvellous sound – it was a year ago that this mixture created one of the most remarkable sound recordings, the Direct-to-disc-Cut of the Bassface Swing Trio and their tribute to Gershwin.
Could things become any better than this? Hard to imagine, but true. Proof enough of this: The Bassface Swing Trio again, this time featuring singer Barbara Bürkle, a fine selection of Cole Porter jazz tunes entitled Tribute to Cole Porter.
The Stockfisch sound engineers mixed the sound of seven microphones in an analog mixer to a stereo sum. They enjoyed this creative listening phase whilst doing this exciting down-mix. The musicians played two sets of four pieces - live, there were no edits or digital tricks involved.
The sound is unbelievably open and transparent; Thilo Wagner’s piano lines come fresh and lively as a mountain brook. Dynamic performance and abundant humour is what Bassface Trio is all about.

While many a jazz singer is still trying, Bassface Trio’s Barbara Bürkle is just there - right in between your speakers – Yes Sir, that's entertainment! – Three-dimensional, strong and sensitive. This young woman’s huge talent is that kind of mathematics which turns quartets into trios!
Stockfisch Records is always good for a surprise: The first vinyl release in the year 2007 is a "DMM direct cut LP". Because Stockficsh Records has the best conditions that allow this stunning formats: a recording studio with a Fazioli grand piano, a DMM cutting lathe and interesting contacts with brilliant musicians over the years.
Direct-to-Disc means that the musicians play one record side long without mistakes, while the DMM system performs the cutting simultaneously. Live - without corrections and subsequent processing.
This direct-to-disc vinyl record comes with a SACD (DSD 2channel-layer) which also contains a CD-hybrid-layer. This seems to be the first opportunity ever available to compare three formats originating from the same analog source and transferred unaltered into two digital formats.

The limited vinyl edition is meanwhile out of print, a reissue is in direct-to-disc productions excluded. This swinging highlight should still be available. In addition, there had been many requests for a SACD release of music lovers who do not have turntables. Therefore Stockfisch sells the originally intended only as a supplement SACD now out as a separate Hybrid SACD.
