Analog Pearls

Stockfisch-Records started a new series called "Analog Pearls".

These old analog recordings were chosen because of the fantastic sound. For the new series Günter Pauler is looking in archives and is searching for grantors of a license. Before releasing as "Analog Pearls" the tracks have been carefully remastered at Stockfisch-Records.

"Allan Taylor - Win Or Lose" Analog Pearls Vol.6

"The idea to re-release 'Win or Lose' on Stockfisch Records came from Günter Pauler after I had sent him the original master-tape that I had found amongst my archive material. I thought he might be interested, mainly because the original quality of recording was so good. Furthermore, it fell within the parameters of quality that Stockfisch demand from all of their recordings, so we decided to go ahead with the idea, releasing it on the 'Analog Pearls' series - in three formats: SACD, LP and Digital Download."

"It is almost forty years since that original recording, and although much has changed as regards recording techniques and equipment, I hope the songs have stood the test of time, and you, the listener, will enjoy the result." Allan Taylor, 2020.

"Craig Hadden & Charlie Carr - Old Gold" Analog Pearls Vol.4

Stockfisch Records is happy to present this 40-year-old recording of Craig Hadden & Charlie Carr recreating some of their favourite songs from the 1950s. Originally pressed on vinyl in very small numbers in 1980, this rare recording has now been transferred from the original reel-to-reel master and is being re-released in three formats: SACD, LP and Digital Download.

"No matter what type of popular music you listen to today, almost every style has its roots in the "Oldies" - the rock'n'roll of the '50s. There's something about the music of this era that remains great even in the '80s. We tried to recreate these songs in such a way as to bring back memories for those of you who still remember them, as well as to offer something fresh and exciting for those of you who have never heard them before. I think you will agree with us that "Oldies" never die." Craig Hadden, 1980.

"Chris Jones & Charlie Carr" Analog Pearls Vol. 3

In 1979 Chris Jones and Charlie Carr came together to record some of their own songs along with a few traditional pieces. The tapes of this recording lay hidden in the Stockfisch archive for 40 years, only to resurface again in 2019. Stockfisch Records is glad to release the results of this collaboration as the third album in its "Analog Pearls" series.

"Rediscovering the tapes of this production after such a long time brought back memories of how I first met Chris Jones: it was thanks to Charlie Carr, at that time working at an army-shop in Southern Germany, who acquired for me a Crown DC-300 - the sensational power amplifier of that time. As a way of thanking him, I offered him to do a recording at our studio. Charlie was thrilled and brought Chris Jones with him, who was to accompany him during the recording sessions. Thus began our wonderful musical journey with fabulous musician Chris Jones."
Günter Pauler, 2019

"Andreas Rohde - Resonance" Analog Pearls Vol.2

ANDREAS ROHDE visited our Northeim studio in 1983. It was impossible not to notice his admiration for LEO KOTTKE. The tuning and the selection of strings on Rhode’s 12-string GIBSON B-25 and the GUILD F 212C sound quite like those of his idol. Of course, the lyrics and the timbre of his voice remain distinctly his own.

We have documented the state of our previous analog studio technology in numerous photographs in the booklet. For the second volume of “Analog Pearls”, we played the two-track master tape on the same TELEFUNKEN M15A that Andreas Rohde’s recordings from 1983 were mixed on. Then, our MEITNER 1-bit DSD-Converter managed the leap into the digital age. Thus you can hear a native 1-bit DSD Layer on the SACD. Of course this SACD contains the special HYBRID-LAYER as well, so you can also listen to "Analog Pearls Vol.2" on a regular CD player, as you can with every Stockfisch-SACD!

We lost track of Andreas Rohde long ago. He supposedly lives in Australia. Maybe one day he might even hear this “pearl” – as in a dreamtime legend of a timeless, boundless world.

"Waylon Jennings" Analog Pearls Vol.1

1964 - A large recording room in the “AUDIO RECORDERS” studio in Phoenix, Arizona. The sound engineer FLOYD RAMSEY sets up a selection of ribbon microphones (RCA 44 / RCA KU-3a) for a recording session with WAYLON JENNINGS. The producer is HERB ALPERT.

Waylon Jennings stands in front of his band and a choir. Within a few hours they create a 4-track recording typical for this era. From todays perspective the sound equipment is very rudimentary, but the result is extremely convincing and clean tube sound. The quality of these recordings is exemplary.
